Pumpkin Bowl Chili

Greetings from the farm!

This cooler weather of fall has inspired some fall recipes in the farm kitchen! A new favorite of our kids' is Pumpkin Bowl Chili. This easy to make dish is a novelty that our family will be sure to enjoy for years to come! It's pretty simple too!

  • Cut top off of pumpkin and clean out seeds and guts, as you would a jack-o-lantern pumpkin.

  • Mix together your favorite chili ingredients* and place in pumpkin.

  • Place pumpkin in baking dish with a small amount of water in bottom.

  • Bake at 350 for 2-4 hours or until pumpkin is soft and thoroughly cooked.

  • Dish out, add your favorite chili toppings and enjoy!

We found that we not only enjoyed the pumpkin pieces in our chili, but the cooked pumpkin nearest the skin served as a naturally sweet, healthy dessert.

*We keep our chili simple with our home-grown ingredients: canned tomato juice, canned salsa, chilii beans, ground pork, sausage or hamburger. We like to top with cheddar cheese and soup crackers or corn bread for a hearty meal.

We hope this has inspired you to try a new fall recipe. Share with us what you are creating with our farm meats on Facebook or Instagram!
