Welcoming Dusty: A Special Christmas Addition

Christmas came early for the Tharp Sisters this year! Late one night, just before the holiday, we welcomed a beautiful grey pony named Dusty onto our farm. What a lucky pony to have three girls to love and dote on her—and what lucky girls to have such a sweet and sensible new friend! We’re looking forward to many years and countless memories to be made with Dusty.

At just three years old, Dusty has already shown us her calm and good-natured spirit. She's eager to learn and has quickly become a cherished member of our farm family. This little mare has been a true blessing, sweet and steady enough for the kids to handle with ease, yet young and green enough that they’re learning and growing together.

We love riding our horses, but one of our farm girls has a special passion for buggy and wagon horses. She has been working hard and consistently to teach Dusty to drive. Watching her work this pony behind a harness brings to mind memories of my grandad, who had a similar gift for working horses in harness. It’s such a joy to see these passions and skills passed down through generations, woven into the fabric of our family’s story.

Our older girls have also been training Dusty to ground drive and riding her under saddle, showing incredible patience and dedication. One of our long-term goals is to have Dusty pull a cart, and we’re confident she’ll take on this challenge with grace.

Be sure to check out the pictures below to see Dusty in action and follow along on her training journey. We’re excited to share updates as she continues to learn and grow with our family!
